AEbt Certifer has successfully completed the independent safety assessment of Kiepe Electric’s vehicle control units and
its integration into the overall system of the Flexity Classic tram types A and B for the city of Gothenburg (Sweden).
The tram vehicles delivered by Kiepe Electric and Alstom (former Bombardier Transportation) consortium have been assessed by AEbt Certifer
in accordance with EN 50126, EN 50128 and EN 50129 Cenelec standards and approved by the Swedish authority for operation on Göteborgs Spårvägar AB’s network in June 2021.
In detail AEbt Certifer has assessed the vehicle control systems under the responsibility of Kiepe Electric with regard to the integration and functionality and safety in the overall system.
The permit to put the vehicles into operation was applied for in 2018 and assessed by AEbt Certifer’s experts during the project.
As part of the assessment, the evidence documents were checked and the built vehicles were inspected by the experts to ensure the functional and technical safety of the vehicle control system.
The type A vehicle is a unidirectional vehicle with one driver's cab, one shunting cab and passenger doors on one side.
In comparison, the type B vehicle is equipped with two driver's cabs and passenger doors on both sides.
In the project, both vehicle types were examined. Even though they have the same control components, the above-mentioned differences in design and operating mode with regard to functionality and handling required a separate evaluation per vehicle type.
The first vehicles of the types have been in passenger service on Göteborgs Spårvägar AB’s network since June 2021.
