CERTIFER, in a joint venture with Bureau Veritas, has carried out the EC interoperability verification of the new Lubián - Orense high-speed section for the Energy and Infrastructure subsystems
 
Last 21st December a new section of the Madrid - Galicia High Speed Line, Pedralba - Orense, was inaugurated, connecting Ourense with the capital of Madrid in 2 hours and 15 minutes.
 
With 31 tunnels and 32 viaducts, which reflect the rugged Galician terrain, this is the most complex section of the line. It has been designed for a high-speed double-track platform, with some sections of separate platforms, and with a maximum speed of 300 km/h. Two types of tracks have been installed: slab track (prefabricated and bi-block sleepers) and ballasted track. In this phase, the marshalling yard at Orense station has been remodelled to accommodate the high-speed tracks. In a later phase, access to Ourense will be via a bypass outside the city, at which time a new station will be built.
