The EN 50126 standard "Specification and demonstration of reliability, availability, maintainability and safety (RAMS)" defines a standardised product development process applicable to all players in the railway sector.
Standards EN 50128 "Software for railway control and protection systems" and EN50129 "Safety related electronic systems for signalling" are applicable to software and hardware aspects respectively. Each of these standards defines Safety Integrity Levels to ensure that these products are produced in accordance with safety expectations.
